Hundreds of residents in Masaka have declared their support for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s reported 2031 presidential ambitions during a Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) mobilisation event. The gathering, held at Brovad Hotel in Masaka City, was led by PLU Executive Secretary Daudi Kabanda as part of a countrywide campaign to mobilise supporters and collect endorsements for Muhoozi’s planned candidature.Kabanda said the large attendance showed growing interest in the political mobilisation exercise, adding that the campaign would continue in different parts of Uganda.
During the meeting, local leaders also used the platform to highlight concerns about alleged arrests and harassment of some residents and political figures.Masaka City NRM Chairperson Rogers Bulegeya asked Kabanda to deliver their concerns to Gen Muhoozi, saying some people had been detained without clear explanations.Women leaders and other speakers at the event encouraged more citizens, especially women and young people, to take part in political discussions and mobilisation activities.
Former political candidates and local leaders also addressed the gathering, saying they wanted the PLU leadership to listen to issues affecting communities.Brigadier General Pande Jackson Kajoba called on Ugandans to protect peace and ensure political differences do not lead to violence.Kabanda later assured residents that their concerns would be presented to Gen Muhoozi and the PLU leadership. The Masaka event follows similar mobilisation activities held in other parts of the country as supporters continue efforts to build backing for Muhoozi’s reported 2031 presidential plans.
