Uganda Airlines is preparing to strengthen its presence in the African aviation market with the planned launch of flights between Entebbe International Airport and Accra, the capital of Ghana, next Tuesday. The new route is expected to give Ugandan travellers another option for reaching West Africa while opening up opportunities for business, tourism and travel between the two countries. The national carrier plans to operate the service four times a week using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. However, passengers should expect a stopover in Lagos, Nigeria, along the way.
Although the route is being marketed as a direct service, the Lagos stop means travellers will not fly from Entebbe to Accra without an intermediate stop.To attract passengers, Uganda Airlines has advertised a promotional return ticket price of $550, equivalent to approximately Shs 2.3 million. The fare could appeal to businesspeople, tourists and Ugandans travelling to Ghana for personal or professional reasons. Travellers are, however, advised to confirm ticket availability, travel dates and any applicable booking conditions before making their reservations.
The new service will place Uganda Airlines in competition with established carriers already connecting Entebbe and Accra. Kenya Airways serves the route through Nairobi, while Ethiopian Airlines connects passengers through Addis Ababa. The entry of Uganda’s national carrier will give travellers another airline to consider when comparing fares, schedules and overall travel convenience.Beyond passenger transport, the new route could support stronger economic and commercial relations between Uganda and Ghana. Both countries have business communities that could benefit from easier connections, particularly in trade, investment, tourism and other areas of cooperation.
More flight options could also make it easier for entrepreneurs to attend meetings, explore markets and establish partnerships across the continent. For Uganda Airlines, the planned launch represents another step in its broader strategy to expand its African network and attract more passengers. Establishing additional regional connections could help the airline increase its market presence while supporting Uganda’s ambition to improve air connectivity with important destinations across Africa. The Entebbe–Accra service is not the only route on the airline’s expansion agenda.
Uganda Airlines has also planned flights between Entebbe and Kigali, Rwanda, signalling its continued interest in growing its regional operations. The success of these planned routes will depend on passenger demand, competitive fares, reliable schedules and the airline’s ability to provide convenient connections. As the planned launch approaches, travellers will be watching closely to see how the new service performs, particularly given the Lagos stopover and the advertised promotional fare. If the route attracts sufficient demand and delivers a competitive travel experience, it could become an important addition to Uganda Airlines’ network, strengthening connections between East and West Africa while giving passengers more choices when travelling between Uganda and Ghana.
