The Buganda Kingdom has intensified efforts to streamline land administration by calling on all occupants of Kabaka’s land to formally register their bibanja interests. Kingdom leaders say the exercise is intended to safeguard the rights of lawful occupants while creating a more organized and transparent land management system. The appeal was delivered by the Minister of Lands and Housing, David F.K. Mpanga, who represented the Katikkiro at a function where residents from Buvuma and Bulemeezi counties gathered to support Kingdom programs through financial contributions.

The event raised more than Shs37 million, demonstrating continued commitment by subjects to Kingdom development initiatives.Addressing the gathering, Mpanga dismissed fears that registration could be linked to evictions, stressing that the Kingdom does not take away land from its occupants.

He explained that the primary objective is to ensure that everyone living on Kabaka’s land is properly documented and enjoys secure occupancy rights. He noted that registration helps prevent future disputes and enables the Kingdom to keep accurate records of land users. According to Mpanga, occupants who complete the registration process will benefit from greater recognition and protection under established land management structures.

The minister also turned his attention to the economic challenges facing island communities, particularly in Buvuma District. He encouraged residents to look beyond fishing and invest in alternative income-generating activities that can help families remain financially stable during difficult times. On matters of public health, Mpanga urged communities to take greater responsibility for cleanliness and sanitation.

He called on residents to maintain hygienic environments, properly dispose of waste, and adopt habits that reduce the spread of preventable diseases.During the same event, Minister for Local Governments Joseph Kawuki challenged students to remain focused on their education and character development.

He encouraged them to draw inspiration from successful leaders and use their studies as a foundation for future service to their communities and the nation.Buvuma County Chief Mbuubi Mboowa Michael Wamala highlighted the growing economic struggles faced by fishing communities, saying restrictions on lake activities have left many residents battling poverty. The event was attended by several Kingdom dignitaries and partners, with total donations reaching Shs37,258,000 in support of Kingdom activities and development programs.
